 10 The Shrine

The gladiators, who risked their lives at every appearance, were apparently particularly dedicated to several divinities to which they looked for strength and courage (Hercules, Mars and Diana) or good fortune (Nemesis).  Small places of worship to these gods were usually established in the vicinity of an amphitheatre, shrines where altars,  statues, relief sculptures and votive inscriptions are often found.
